Majiang the Black Cat · Embroidered Circus Patches

Meet Majiang, a black Chinese domestic cat with a faint scar on her left ear, a mark left from a fight during her stray days.

She's a bit proud and rarely acts clingy, but the moment you bring out food, her true self is revealed. She's no hero, yet she quietly steps in front of the weaker ones. Along her adventures, she meets a group of friends who have also experienced life on the streets. Together, they work together and start a small circus — not for fame, but to support themselves and help more homeless animals find a place to belong.

This series catches the troupe in everyday life, on stage and off: Majiang snacking in a lunchbox, peeking out of a basket, getting carried around in a string bag. Designed by Majiang's creator, an independent illustrator, and embroidered as iron-on patches.

Four designs

  • Bento Box: Majiang curled up in a red bento box, nibbling a snack next to compartments of rice, greens and other goodies. 45 × 35 mm (approx. 1.8 × 1.4 in).
  • Basket: Majiang peeking over the rim of a woven basket tied with a big red bow. 40 × 50 mm (approx. 1.6 × 2 in).
  • Cat in a Net Bag: Majiang squished into a blue string bag, one white paw poking out the bottom. 45 × 65 mm (approx. 1.8 × 2.6 in).
  • Circus Majiang: Majiang in her performing outfit, a plumed hat and a red-and-white striped costume, mid-strut. 40 × 50 mm (approx. 1.6 × 2 in).

The photos show the full series of eight. We carry the four Majiang designs above.

Details

  • Embroidered patch with an iron-on backing
  • Size: see each design above
  • Made for jackets, shirts, tote bags, caps and other flat fabric surfaces.

How to iron on

  1. Place the patch on a flat fabric surface.
  2. Heat your iron to about 150°C (300°F). Cover the patch with a thin cotton cloth and press firmly on the front for about 10 seconds.
  3. Let it cool before moving the fabric.

Check first that your fabric can take an iron; pressing time varies a little from fabric to fabric. On sweaters and other knits, add a few stitches around the edge to keep the patch secure.
